Luna Nuda Pinot Grigio IGT, Vignetti delle Dolomiti 2010 (Italy)FEATURED
Brilliant pale straw color. The nose is crisp and fresh with scents of musk melon, green apple, and pear with hints of mineral, lemon zest and green grass. The palate echoes the nose being drier than most contemporary Pinot Grigios. Nicely balanced with just enough heft to provide structure and length. Serve cool with nothing but a glass or pair with fresh anchovies or a caramelized onion tart.
L.A. Cetto Petite Sirah Guadalupe Valley 2007 (Mexico)
Deep, dense ruby red color. The nose reveals a careful marriage of earth, dried and ripe berries, and vanilla accented wood notes. The palate echoes the nose offering a semi-lush fruit core flanked by a dusty earth and spice note that adds interest and structure. Ideal with grilled meats or perhaps a fresh and bold version of baba ghanoush.
La Fiera Montepulciano d'Abruzzo 2010 (Italy)
Deep, dark ruby red color. The nose is filled with the scents of dry black fruits, mineral, violets, and brown baking spices. The palate echoes the nose delivering an ideally structured, medium-bodied wine with enough fruity richness to add weight and interest. Perfectly balanced and well-proportioned with black fruit skins woven in the moderate tannins. Everything you want in a Montepulciano including a very appealing price tag. Buy it by the case.
La Fiera Pinot Grigio IGT, Veneto 2010 (Italy)
Pale straw color. The aromatics are bright and crisp with scents of fresh pear and green apple accented by mineral and semisweet floral notes. The palate is in full agreement with the nose delivering a semi-tart orchard fruit driven core with supporting notes of citrus, mineral, and wild flower essence. Nicely balanced while a bit of a one note wonder. However, when considering the sticker price this is a great value.
La Rocca Barbera “Organic” California 2006 (USA)
Deep, dark purple color. Then nose reveals a powerful concentration of red and black berries with an abundance of wild herbs and accents of oak and earth. The palate is equally assertive with flavors of dense, freshly crushed berries and a distinct impression of alcohol strength. The finish lingers for minutes offering gobs of ripe cherry with hints of vanilla. Unique.
La Rocca Cabernet Sauvignon “Organic” Sierra Foothills 2006 (USA)
Dark red being nearly opaque. The nose reveals a dense and jammy wine. Jammy as it is reminiscent of blueberry and blackberry jam with touches of vanilla and cola. The palate is far drier than the nearly port like nose would suggest with accents of mocha and tart cherries.
Ladera Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain Napa Valley 2005 (USA)
Deep, dark garnet red. The aromatics are simply beautiful as scents of blueberry, raspberry, cherry, and cassis fill the nose. The palate offers a comparable mélange of dark fruits with accents of lavender, chocolate, cigar, star anise, allspice, and cardamom. Ideally balanced with a lush core that never becomes brooding. Wonderfully complex with great length and soft, chewy tannins. A milestone mountain fruit Napa Cab.
Ladera Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2006 (USA)
Deep, bright garnet red color with cherry edges. The nose is beautiful and reveals a classic Napa Cabernet in the best sense. Ripe blackberry, raspberry, and rainier cherries, with accents of thyme, black pepper, and oak. The palate is in full agreement delivering a generous, while compact fruit, oak, and spice marriage. Very extracted while austere and restrained with soft, firm tannins.
Ladera Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon “Lone Canyon” Napa Valley 2004 (USA)
Deepest, darkest garnet red color. The nose is filled with scents of dense, dried berry fruits with a generous dose of herbal character that ranges from thyme to rosemary with a hint of eucalyptus. The palate explodes with ripe and tart berries with playful accents of fresh herbs, oak, mineral, and anise. The palate length is considerable as this wine opens with air revealing previously hidden fruit nuances. A vibrant and contemplative wine with charm and style.
Ladera Vineyards Pinot Noir “Pillow Rd Vineyard” Russian River Valley 2006 (USA)
Bright cherry to ruby red color. The nose is filled with ripe and tart cherries flanked by scents of mineral expressed as wet river stones with accents of black pepper and allspice. The palate shows the same fruit signature with an assertive pepper and wood note. The finish is dry and austere with lingering traces of earth and pepper.
