Galante Sauvignon Blanc Carmel Valley 2009 (USA)FEATURED
Pale straw color. The nose is fresh and expressive with scents of green and Fuji apple, pomelo, lime zest, and freshly cut grass. The palate echoes the nose with flavors of ginger, kumquat, and grapefruit joining the mix. Ideally balanced with layers of ripe and semi-tart fruits. This wine begs for food and is perfectly suited for grilled fish.

Deepest darkest burgundy color being virtually opaque. The nose is filled with the scents of rich black cherry with accents of earth, cocoa, cigar box, allspice, clove, and oak. The palate echoes the aromatics offering a silky rich black fruit core with pleasing foils of earth, oak, and spice with a lovely cigar note. Ideally proportioned with a great balance of acidity. Soft to medium tannins with great length. Wonderfully complex and pretty damn sexy for a red wine under $20.
Gonzalez Byass Tio Pepe Jerez-Xeres-Sherry NV (Spain)FEATURED
Very pale color with brilliant clarity. The nose is fresh and incredibly complex offering scents from a bakery and the sea. Aromas of fresh green olives, lime zest, celery, blanched almonds, and capers. The palate fully concurs with the nose delivering a generous Fino Sherry with crisp dry flanks and long lingering flavors. Drink chilled and drink fresh with anything from the sea.
Galante Cabernet Sauvignon “Blackjack Pasture” Carmel Valley 2005 (USA)
Brilliant ruby red color. The nose is complex and multi-layered while being more reserved than the other Galante Cabernets. Scents of dried and crush black berries dominate with a mélange of supporting aromatics including cocoa nibs, cassis, black licorice, allspice, nutmeg, and oak. The palate is just as complex revealing new wrinkles with each sip. It is dry with a pleasing, ripe fruit core and complimenting notes of spice, earth, and oak. This great Cab manages to be bold while austere and reserved. A wonderful hybrid of Old and New World styles.
Galante Cabernet Sauvignon “Rancho Galante” Carmel Valley 2006 (USA)
Deep, dark ruby red color. The nose is dense and concentrated with the scents of dark berries with pronounced accents of cigar, black pepper, clove, earth, and oak. The palate is a mirror reflection of the nose ideally marrying fruit, earth, tobacco, browns spice, and a dose of cedar. Complex and charming selling for a very sensible price.
Galante Cabernet Sauvignon “Red Rose Hill” Carmel Valley 2007 (USA)
Brilliant ruby red color. The nose reveals classic Cabernet aromas delivering rich berry and cherry fruit with accents of pencil lead-like minerality, black pepper, allspice, earth, and oak. The palate is equally dense and austere with the dry fruit core flanked by earth and spice while it is all framed by accessible, dusty tannins. Wonderfully complex and contemplative with a great future ahead; it should evolve nicely in the cellar for a decade or more.
Galante Grand Champion Carmel Valley 2007 (USA)
Deepest, darkest ruby red color. The nose explodes with the rich, dense scents of blackberry, cherry, and hints of raspberry with cassis, sweet brown spices, vanilla bean, tapenade, and oak. The palate echoes the nose offering layers upon layers of dense fruit with the seamless addition of spice, oak, and hints of earth. Wonderfully complex and hedonistic with ultra soft, chewy tannins. A real gem with nearly perfect proportions and weight. It comes with a luxury price tag but it is made in very small quantities and it is a real beauty.
Galante Merlot Carmel Valley 2007 (USA)
Deep ruby red color with garnet edges. The nose is generously fruity with scents of blueberry, raspberry, and plum with hints of brown spices, earth, and oak. The palate is in full agreement with the nose dry, dusty tannins, black pepper, and a trailing note of ripe cherry. An altogether stylish and charming Merlot.
Galante Pinot Noir “Almond Flat” Carmel Valley 2006 (USA)
Bright, brilliant ruby red color. The nose is filled with the scents of black cherry with raspberry and accenting aromas of earth, dark chocolate, and oak. The palate concurs with the nose delivering a rich and austere Pinot with plenty of earth and spice. Rustic, intense, and pure with plenty of life ahead. This is not the typical fruit bomb with Syrah tendencies.
Georges Duboeuf Beaujolais Cru Brouilly 2009 (France)
Brilliant crimson color. The nose is complex and expressive with scents of violets mingling with freshly crushed red berries and accents of mineral, earth, and cardamon. The palate is in full agreement with the nose delivering a dense and chewy core of red berry fruit with flanking notes of mineral. The tannins are semi-firm and very present at this stage. Ideally balanced with bright acidity. This wine calls out for a hearty stew.
