Alicats Viognier “Gimelli Vineyards” Cienega Valley 2009 (USA)FEATURED
Brilliant pale straw color. The nose is incredibly fragrant and well-defined offering scents of ripe apricot, peach, pineapple, and spring flowers with a touch of honey. The palate equals the generosity of the nose while being crisper with a generous dose of citrus that envelops the ripe fruit core. Perfectly balanced with complex fruit and mineral flavors that finish with a blast of ginger. This is what Viognier should be.
Adler Fels Cabernet Sauvignon Russian River Valley 2007 (USA)
Deep, dark ruby red color. The aromatics reveal a dense and steely dry Cabernet with scents of dry black berries, mineral, earth, and oak. The palate concurs with the nose delivering a full-bodied wine with accents of pencil lead, forest floor, and mineral. Nicely balanced with soft, structural tannins.
Adler Fels Chardonnay Russian River Valley 2010 (USA)
Pale golden straw color. The nose is fresh and bold with waves of tropical fruit, lychee, pineapple, baked apple and pears with accents of vanilla, butterscotch and deftly proportioned barrel notes. The palate is in full agreement with the nose offering a rich fruit and oak driven core that so many Chardonnay drinkers are seeking. Nicely balanced and fresh with vibrant acidity that keeps this wine lively and refreshing.
Adler Fels Gewurztraminer Russian River Valley 2010 (USA)
Very pale straw color. The aromatics are nothing short of beautiful. Scents of honeysuckle, lychee, rose water, red grapefruit, and Mandarin orange. Fortunately, the palate is equal to the nose delivering a multi-layered wine with depth, balance, and style. Adler Fels has been known for their stellar Gewurztraminer for decades and their latest offering is faithful to their legend. This wine is a steal, buy it by the case.
Adler Fels Sauvignon Blanc Russian River Valley 2010 (USA)
Brilliant pale straw color. The nose is rather floral and complex with scents of tropical fruit, gooseberry, grapefruit, green apple, and star fruit. The palate echoes the nose being more generous than the nose would suggest delivering a lush but vibrant fruit core with supporting citrus-like acidity and subtle mineral notes. Ideally balanced with great length and style. This wine has personality plus with true Sauvignon Blanc character.
Alban Viognier Central Coast 2006 (USA)
Pale gold color. The nose is generously tropical with notes of ripe pineapple and mango accented by vanilla and wild flowers. The palate reveals much of the same being ultra ripe and cloying with thick, buttery flavors. I know that many enjoy this style but I find it to be a heavy and void of vibrancy and true varietal character.
Albertina Cabernet Sauvignon Mendocino 2006 (USA)
Deep ruby to cherry red color. The nose is dense with ripe blackberry, plum, and cassis accented by cinnamon, allspice, and vanilla. The palate is lush and ripe echoing the aromatics. Rich and silky while being ideally proportioned with a nice dose of acidity to give it bounds, as well as a clever use of wood. A big Cabernet with charm and panache.
Alex Elman Torrontes Mendoza 2010 (Argentina)
Brilliant pale straw color. The nose is fresh and floral with red grapefruit, lychee, white peach, and tangerine with accents of mineral and fresh herbs. The palate echoes the nose with a very crisp citrus edge. Ideally balanced with a vibrant fruit core flanked by a generous dose of mineral and citrus zest. The perfect summer aperitif and a terrific value as well.
Alicats Passito di Chardonnay Cienega Valley 2006 (USA)
Brilliant orange sunset color. The nose is vibrant while intense (allow it warm a bit for it to show you its full aromatic range) with scents of golden raisins, honey, nougat, and orange peel. The palate echoes the nose offering a lush but ideally balanced wave of ripe fruits with accents of jasmine tea, almonds, and orange liqueur. This is an exceptional dessert wine that offers a generous dose of fresh acidity that gives this unique wine lift and life inviting the next sip. Bravo!
Alicats Syrah Dry Pink San Benito 2007 (USA)
Bright, deep pink color. The nose is filled with the scents of fresh berries and cherries accented by allspice, pink peppercorns, and figs. The palate is wonderfully generous offering layers of raspberry, cherry, and rhubarb with touches of brown spices and blood oranges. Perfectly balanced offering great refreshment and ideal compatibility to Thai or Indian curries. A dead ringer for a great Southern French rosé. A Best Buy.
