The palate is wonderfully generous offering layers of raspberry, cherry, and rhubarb with touches of brown spices and blood oranges. Perfectly balanced offering great refreshment and ideal compatibility to Thai or Indian curries. A dead ringer for a great Southern French rosé. A Best Buy.

Alicats Syrah “Gimelli Vineyards” Cienega Valley 2006 (USA)
FEATUREDDeepest red to purple color. The nose is an amazing cross of California and Rhone Syrah. Aromas of black cherry, cassis, bitter chocolate and raspberry abound being accented by star anise, black pepper, earth, and eucalyptus. The palate is lush and lengthy while perfectly proportioned being flanked by natural acidity, pepper, and firm tannins. I challenge anyone to find a better Syrah for the money. A Best Buy

Alicats Syrah “Siletto Vineyards” Cienega Valley 2006 (USA)
FEATUREDDeep ruby red to purple color. The nose offers amazingly dense fruit being reminiscent of sun-dried black grapes complimented by notes of sweet wild marjoram, treacle, and black pepper. The palate confirms the nose of delivering dense, tar-like (yes, this is positive!) black fruit flavors accented by brown baking spices that trail to a long finish with firm and chewy tannins. Dare I say a masculine style? I will.

Alicats Viognier “Gimelli Vineyards” Cienega Valley 2009 (USA)

The palate equals the generosity of the nose while being crisper with a generous dose of citrus that envelops the ripe fruit core. Perfectly balanced with complex fruit and mineral flavors that finish with a blast of ginger. This is what Viognier should be.

Scents of black currants leap from the glass with accents of herbes de Provence, a pencil lead like minerality, dark chocolate nibs, cloves, and black pepper. Ancient Peaks Petite Sirah Paso Robles 2006 (USA)

The palate gives full dimension to the aromatic notes. This super dense and chewy wine is in perfect balance offering waves of fruit and spice flavors with a judicious dose of fresh acidity. A deft use of oak rounds out this gem. Hedonistic while contemplative working well with grilled steaks.

Ardente Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Napa Valley 2003 (USA)
FEATUREDBrilliant brick red color. The nose is so complex with seamlessly integrated notes of dried fruits, spice, earth, cocoa powder, and dried herbs with wild mint standing out. The palate fully concurs with the aromatics offering a beautifully complex and seductive wine that invites you to examine each sip. Perfectly balanced with great length and depth. A textbook examination of an ideally maturing Cabernet.

Ardente Sangiovese Estate Napa Valley 2002 (USA)
FEATUREDBright garnet red color with amber accents that suggest bottle age. The nose is far more reminiscent of Italian Sangiovese than a California version as it seamlessly weaves the scents of wild berries with dried herbs, cigar box, earth, and brown spices. The palate fully concurs with the nose offering another dimension, which is a surprisingly vibrant berry oriented fruit core with layers of accenting spice and earth notes. This is a wine for Chianti lovers that prize a complex mélange of flavors. Hard to put the glass down.
